Overview

As a Scientific Account Manager at Pluto, you will be responsible for managing client relationships with a focus on commercial growth and strategic alignment. You will serve as the primary liaison between Pluto and our pharmaceutical and research partners, guiding them through renewals, expansions, and deeper adoption of our platform. You will work closely with internal teams including Product, Marketing, and Customer Success to advocate for your clients’ scientific needs while identifying opportunities to deliver additional value.

This role requires a strong foundation in biology, bioinformatics, or NGS technologies, enabling you to confidently communicate with scientific stakeholders and translate their research goals into platform solutions. You’ll be expected to deeply understand your clients' programs and organizational priorities to ensure Pluto is consistently aligned as a trusted scientific and strategic partner.

Compensation range

$90,000 - $130,000

The expected salary range above is applicable if the role is performed from Denver and may vary for other locations. Actual salary may vary based on qualifications and experience. Pluto offers a full range of benefits, which may include incentive compensation, restricted stock units, medical and other benefits depending on the position.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for a portfolio of key scientific and pharmaceutical accounts
  • Develop deep, long-term relationships with stakeholders, from bench scientists to executive decision-makers
  • Conduct regular check-ins and business reviews to ensure alignment between client goals and Pluto’s solutions
  • Own contract renewals, pricing conversations, and commercial negotiations
  • Identify and drive upsell and cross-sell opportunities that provide increased scientific value to clients
  • Collaborate with Customer Success to uncover unmet needs that Pluto can address via expanded partnerships
  • Stay closely connected to clients' research focus areas (e.g. oncology, immunology, neuroscience) to understand where Pluto’s platform can enhance discovery workflows
  • Support proposal development and scoping for additional services, integrations, or custom solutions
  • Translate complex scientific needs into actionable product feedback for internal stakeholders
  • Partner with Marketing on case studies, success stories, and go-to-market initiatives
  • Work with Finance and Operations to maintain accurate revenue forecasting and account status
  • Monitor account health, risk indicators, and usage trends to proactively address issues

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Bioinformatics, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 3+ years of experience in account management, client success, or business development in a scientific or SaaS setting
  • Strong working knowledge of genomics, transcriptomics, or related areas of biological research
  • Comfortable engaging with technical and scientific clients; ability to navigate both scientific and commercial discussions
  • Experience managing renewals, identifying expansion opportunities, and working toward revenue targets
  • Polished communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for a range of audiences
  • Highly organized with experience using CRM tools (e.g., Salesforce, Hubspot) and project tracking systems (e.g., Asana)

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in Life Sciences, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or a related field
  • Experience working directly with pharmaceutical or biotech clients
  • Background in life sciences, healthcare technology, or computational biology
  • Proficiency writing bioinformatics scripts in R or Python
  • A growth mindset and passion for learning, especially about biology, bioinformatics, AI/ML, or software engineering
  • Competitive insight
  • Certification in project management (e.g., PMP) or customer success (e.g., Gainsight PX certification) is a plus
